Our name, Water & Spirit, implies repentance and restoration. We use it to denote the experience of transformation realized through baptism and symbolized by the ritual.
Repentance, as a total change in one's life, means to turn to God with a transformed heart and mind. As God is revealed in Scriptures and in Jesus Christ, our decision to become disciples of Christ is an act of repentance. Restoration is an act of the Spirit, and through it, we are "born from above" to become living temples of God.
"Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?"
1 Corinthians 3.16
A disciple is a student or follower. We advance in our transformation and grow spiritually as we renew our mind through our discipleship to Christ. Yet, as disciples, we are to learn from Christ how to be like him and continue the work that he began. He tells us:
"...do not be called "Rabbi"; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren...
And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ."
Matthew 23.8, 10
Therefore, although we provide a learning center, there are no designated teachers in the ministry of Water & Spirit. All are brethren, as Christ is the true teacher; the role of Water & Spirit is to facilitate learning by providing a forum for presenting and discussing the words and teaching of Christ. Written, audio and video biblical expositions are given as invitations for discussions and explorations.
We encourage an open discussion of beliefs and interpretations, recognizing that it is the Spirit that reveals truth to those who ask, seek and knock. Our belief is that through this fellowship and open discussions among peers one can better gain the love, knowledge and understanding of the truths of Jesus' words. It is this love and understanding that shape and form the content and conviction of our Christian beliefs - beliefs that open us to a faith which finds expression in our lives.
